Dr. Zoe Smedley, ND
ND
Dr. Smedley is a naturopathic physician specializing in integrative, preventative strategies for cardiovascular, metabolic and digestive health. Using a personalized, patient-centered approach, Dr. Smedley works to address the root causes of complex issues while optimizing preventative health through targeted interventions in diet, exercise, and lifestyle.
Dr. Smedley also incorporates biofeedback techniques into their practice. Biofeedback is a valuable tool for improving autonomic nervous system balance (or getting out of ”fight-or-flight”), which is crucial for digestive function, cardiovascular and metabolic health. By helping us learn to regulate nervous system responses, biofeedback can help in management conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hypertension, chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia, all of which are greatly impacted by autonomic function.
Dr. Smedley is deeply committed to evidence-based medicine, carefully reviewing the latest scientific research and incorporating proven therapies into patient care. Whether considering diagnostic testing, nutritional approaches, medications or mindfulness practices, Dr. Smedley ensures that each treatment plan is backed by the most current and credible clinical data available. A passionate advocate for patient education and empowerment, Dr. Smedley works closely with individuals to create sustainable lifestyle changes that enhance long term health.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Smedley volunteers with local nonprofits in marine conservation. Prior to her Naturopathic Doctorate, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Neuroscience, with a thesis on molecular mechanisms of chronic pain. She then studied mammalian stress physiology at the graduate level, and incorporates this background in her clinical approaches to chronic pain and stress. She is currently working towards a Masters in Public Health focusing on environmental epidemiology.
